Ayesha Khan is a lead Clinical Perfusionist at Barts Health NHS Trust London, qualified since 2006. She has a BSc in Biochemistry followed by a BSc in Clinical Science. As part of her extensive time as a Perfusion training mentor she is creator of the MSc Perfusion Trainee Logbook approved for use and available from the College of Clinical Perfusion Scientists of Great Britian and Ireland. She has been ECMO Lead for the Barts Perfusion Department since 2020 overseeing ECMO operations through the Covid- 19 pandemic and beyond
Blanca has completed a Master of Science in Surgical Care Practice (Cardiothoracic Surgery) with Distinction at Edge Hill University Manchester. Her recent achievements include training in Ultrasound Vein Mapping and successfully passing the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh Cardiothoracic Examination. She is part of UHCW Cardiothoracic Education Faculty and coordinates an educational agenda that includes Managed Cardiac Life Support (MCLS) and pathway to cardiothoracic specialism.
Dr Jon Rosser is a Consultant in Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine. He has worked in Sheffield for the last seven years after moving from the Prince of Wales Hospital, Hong Kong. He is an examiner for the British Society of Echocardiography and is the lead author of the ‘Beyond BASIC Cardiac ICU’ course that has been run in several different countries around the world.
Chris Bowles is a specialist in mechanical circulatory support based at Harefield Hospital with over three decades’ clinical experience. Having completed a degree in biochemistry and qualified as an adult and paediatric perfusionist at the National Heart Hospital Chris was instrumental in establishing the circulatory support programme at Harefield Hospital in the late 80’s. He completed a PhD in 1996 investigating splanchnic ischaemia during cardiopulmonary bypass. Chris is author of 75 peer review publications and has supervised PhD students. He is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Bristol where he contributes to the MSc in Perfusion Science.
I am the Head of Clinical Perfusion at University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust. I have a Post Graduate Diploma in Clinical Perfusion Science and the Advanced Accreditation Certificate with the SCPS. I am a Fellow of both the Society and the College, and I hold an MA in Healthcare Ethics.
Waqas is the only UK Specialist Registrar in Cardiology & Intensive Care with a particular interest in cardiogenic shock, heart transplantation and mechanical circulatory support. He is chair of the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges Trainee Doctors Committee, national trainee representative on the Board of the Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine, trainee representative in organ donation at NHS Blood & Transplant London, honorary treasurer critical care section council at Royal Society of Medicine and Co-President at British Transplant Physician Trainees.
I am Head of the Perfusion Service at Barts Heart Centre at St Barts Hospital. I have managed the perfusion dept at Barts for 25 years and have over 35 years' experience of working as a perfusionist. I have a PgDip in Clinical Perfusion Sciences and the Advanced Accreditation Certificate with the SCPS. I am a Fellow of the CCPS, where I was President for 4 years. I have a PgCert in Management and a PgCert in Education. I am currently training as a patient safety specialist through the national patient safety specialist training course, hosted by NHS England and delivered by Loughborough University. I am involved in MDT training for human factors and patient safety, and I have an educational role supporting the implementation of the Patient Safety Incident Response Framework at Barts.
I began my career as a trainee perfusionist in 1989 at Leeds General Infirmary. I completed an ONC and HNC in medical physics and physiological measurements followed by a perfusion module at Westminster College, London. Accredited in 1993, I worked as an adult perfusionist in Leeds, later obtaining a teaching qualification. After having children, I reduced my hours and became a clinical educator for Datascope, leading IABP training and cardiac surgical skills courses. I trained in paediatrics after LGI and Killingbeck hospitals merged in 1997. I briefly worked at Northern General Hospital Sheffield in 2014 before returning to LGI as Deputy Chief in 2015.
I am the Founder and President of Talis Clinical LLC which is now part of Getinge AB. My firm develops tools for Clinicians in High Acuity Care Environments to support improvements in workflow, drive real-time clinical insights and while supporting operational efficiencies. My background includes over 30 years in Med Tech leadership as an operator, investor and inventor. I live in Cleveland, Ohio (USA), near our Talis Clinical Global HQ. My passions start with my family and extend to my personal work with Childrens Hospitals.
Paul Fricker is currently the CCPS President. He is the Deputy Chief Clinical Perfusion Scientist at St Georges University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Paul Fricker specialises in all aspects of adult clinical perfusion, with specific interests in management of the heart lung machine during complex surgery of the aorta, minimally invasive procedures, and long term cardiac devices.
As a mechanical engineer with over thirty-five years of experience in perfusion technology development, market introduction and business development in Europe, Middle East, Africa, Canada and Australia/New Zealand, Mike is nearly one year into a new startup company called CBM Lifemotion. As a part of the executive leadership team, Mike is the Vice President of Business Development and General Manager of the manufacturing facility being built in Mirandola, Italy for new and exciting ECLS/ECMO technology and the global market. Mike is a long-time advocate of perfusion technology, continuous Training and Education, and the profession of perfusion as a whole, having a fierce loyalty to the field while holding a strong commitment to bringing innovation into everyday use.
Eva is a Senior Clinical Perfusionist at Bichat Claude Bernard Hospital, Paris. After 2 years working as an emergency nurse in Madrid, she pursued a Master’s degree in Perfusion in Barcelona, a perfusion degree in Paris Diderot University and the European Board Certification. She joined the perfusion team at Bichat Hospital in Paris in 2013, where she gained experience with adult cardiopulmonary bypass, ECMO and x-vivo procedures.
Rebecca is Senior Clinical Perfusionist at the Northern General Hospital, Sheffield. She previously studied for a MPhil in the department of Oncology at the University of Sheffield Medical School, before joining St Bartholomew’s Hospital as a Trainee Perfusionist. Since her move to Sheffield, Rebecca has found a keen interest in complex aortic work.
Jack is a Senior Clinical Perfusion Scientist at the Northern General Hospital, Sheffield. He has previously worked at St George’s Hospital, the Royal Brompton Hospital, Wythenshawe Hospital and the Manchester Royal Infirmary, and has experience in adult and paediatric cardiopulmonary bypass and ECMO. He is the clinical governance lead at STH, and is passionate about goal directed perfusion, complex aortic surgery and care quality improvement.
Dr Qasim Majid is a postdoctoral research scientist at the University of Helsinki, specialising in cardiac regeneration and coronary microvascular disease in the context of heart failure. He completed his PhD at Imperial College London, where he investigated novel stem cell-based strategies for post-myocardial infarction cardiac regeneration. A patented inventor and award-winning scientist recognised by the European Society of Cardiology, Dr Majid is committed to advancing therapeutic approaches for a variety of cardiac diseases through innovative research.
I currently serve as a Clinical Perfusionist at Bristol Royal Infirmary, where I am dedicated to advancing patient care through innovative perfusion practices. My journey into perfusion began with a solid foundation in nursing, having earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing in 2009 in Lithuania. In 2022, I embarked on a new chapter as a Trainee Perfusionist at the Bristol Royal Infirmary, officially completing the clinical training program in September 2024. Now, as a Clinical Perfusionist, I am particularly focused on research and practices that aim to mitigate acute kidney injury (AKI) associated with cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB).
Aoibheann is currently a clinical perfusionist at the Royal Brompton hospital, London. Aoibheann previously studied for a Medical and health science bachelor’s degree for four years at University College Cork in Ireland before moving to London to join the Royal Brompton Hospital as a trainee perfusionist. She officially completed the clinical training program and Bristol University masters in September 2024. Now, as a Clinical perfusionist Aoibheann is particularly interested in advancing paediatric extracorporeal membrane oxygenation.
My name is Lauren Martin. I studied general science in Maynooth University and worked in several science labs before starting my career in perfusion. I’m a very active person and enjoy running, cycling, and sea swimming but most of all I enjoy meeting my friends for a pint.
Julie Leslie, PhD, is an experienced Regulatory Affairs professional with over 15 years in the medical device industry, with 11 years at LivaNova, currently serving as Senior Director of Regulatory Affairs and Clinical for the Cardiopulmonary Business Unit. She has held various leadership roles, including directing Regulatory Affairs for both Cardiopulmonary and Neuromodulation Business Units across global locations in the US and Europe. Her expertise spans product development, clinical evaluation, and managing regulatory teams for cardiovascular, neuromodulation, and heart valve products worldwide.
Noel Kelleher is currently the SCPS Chairman. Noel is the chief perfusionist at the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff.
Nick is a Senior Paediatric Perfusionist at Great Ormond Street Hospital. With over 13 years’ experience working across the Midlands, London and the South East, he is also a college examiner and Honorary Lecturer in Biomedical Engineering at Queen Mary University, London.
Jacqueline Simmons is a Clinical Perfusion Scientist with extensive experience in the profession. Holding both a BSc and a BSC hons degrees, as well as an MA in Health Care Leadership and Management. She Combines clinical expertise with a strong focus on patient safety after completing her thesis on Perfusion Error and application of simulation. Her safety interest has been utilised as the Chair of the Safety Committee for the SCPS, working nationally and internationally with Amsect, Orum and PIRs. She is an avid educator and as part of the Education and Training Committee she has assisted in running the examiners course, lectured on the MSc in Clinical Perfusion Science at Bristol University and continues as a lead examiner.
Aswani was elected to the Society’s Executive during the SCPS AGM 2021. Currently, Aswani sits on the Meetings and Seminars, ECMO and Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion subcommittees. Aswani sits on the Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion subcommittee for the Society of Cardiothoracic Surgeons.
