A short lecture focusing on the fundamentals of temporary epicardial pacing after cardiac surgery. The talk covers the basics of pacing and the different modes available. It then moves to look at how epicardial pacing can be utilised to optimise the cardiac output to facilitate weaning from cardiopulmonary bypass in the operating room or weaning from mechanical circulatory support in the intensive care unit.
Dr Jon Rosser is a Consultant in Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine. He has worked in Sheffield for the last seven years after moving from the Prince of Wales Hospital, Hong Kong. He is an examiner for the British Society of Echocardiography and is the lead author of the ‘Beyond BASIC Cardiac ICU’ course that has been run in several different countries around the world.
